Wicken is a small fen-edge village best known for Wicken Fen nature reserve, but its older cottages and farmworkers' houses present some of the most weather-exposed chimneys we work on.
Properties in and around Wicken include Victorian and Edwardian brick cottages that were built for estate and fen workers, often with tall, slim stacks highly susceptible to movement and frost damage. The flat, open fen landscape offers no shelter from northerly winds, and the damp conditions near the nature reserve mean mortar breakdown happens faster here than in more sheltered villages. Stack lean and cracked brickwork are common findings when we visit.
A chimney rebuild in this type of property typically involves rebuilding from the roof level upward with matching brick and lime-based mortar, then re-seating pots with a properly sloped flaunching. We cover Wicken from our Newmarket base with no call-out delays. Contact us to arrange your free chimney survey.
